After finishing the 2006 season strong with a win at the final platinum series event last September, Joe Rinker starts the 2007 season with a win at the first platinum event in Welland at Lochness Links. Joe opened the event with a round of 70, finishing 4 shots behind the pace set by Danny King and Daniel Payton. Holding off a hard charging Gord Chilton who posted 68 and a five under par 31 on the back nine, Rinker surpassed the early round leaders with a 66 on the second and final day. Eight birdies in the final round lead to the low round of the day and the victory for Rinker. “I decided from the first tee that I had to put the pedal to the metal, I didn’t look at the scoreboard all day” Joe said. “On the final hole (Par 5), I didn’t let up, I wanted to make birdie”.
